This one day workshop will focus on frontier explorers foods as well as early settlers cooking methods as the westward expansion of the U.S. began. We will examine and discuss the foodstuffs of the Lewis and Clark expedition party and understand their daily diets.
We will smoke meats, dry fruits, make bannock bread, pemmican, jerky, hard tack, pocket soup and much more while also cooking with cast iron dutch ovens and skillets over fire.
We will also examine food preservation and storage methods primarily ranging from 1800-1900 and actually cook family recipes from this era.
