As a service to parents/guardians with children who recreate outdoors we offer this two day/one night class twice a year and free of charge to those parents and their children age 6 and up. This is beneficial to all who engage in outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking or any other recreational event which may cause injury or where help has a delayed response time. This class will start at 8am on Saturday, end Sunday mid afternoon and will be a weekend full of activities.
Parent and child both will learn the immediate and necessary basics to stay alive and effect rescue. Instruction will consist of maintaining core temperature, gear, pack and clothing selection, temporary shelter options, fire making methods, water procurement, first aid/injury treatment, rescue signaling, easily understood day/night land navigation and self rescue options.
Parent and child please bring for each, a water bottle, quality hiking footwear, small backpack, quality knife of your choice, small compass, mirror, bic lighter or ferro rod, magnifying glass or other fire starting implements, notepad and pencil if desired, packable and portable camping gear, food, and a positive attitude with a desire to learn. A change of clothing and footwear is also suggested for the end of day one as you are likely to get dirty and wet in the creeks/woods during this class.
